Comparison: iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy S8 & iPhone 8 vs Nokia 8

Posted on by in Mobile

Apple’s and Samsung’s annual presentations of new products each time become the most significant events for the whole industry that dictate new trends for the rest of developers. The products of these companies always tend to keep the leading positions in a list of the best-selling gadgets right until they release a new product.

However, in 2017 the picture is a bit different. This year, Samsung has adjusted its own schedule and postponed the presentation to the end of March instead of traditional end of February. Apple, in its turn, decided to surprise everyone in honor of its 10th anniversary and release two devices at once instead of waiting a year until the next fall to present a new phone. Also, we were surprised by Nokia. The company’s new smartphone – Nokia 8 has helped it to rise after a series of failed products and bring the company to the list of world leaders again.

Thus, this year we have faced a really tough question – which one of the brand new gadgets is the best one and which company deserves to be called a full-fledged leader in the world of smartphones? It is not that easy to give an answer to this question. In this article, you will find a detailed comparison of the top four most popular new smartphones and learn more about their features and capabilities to choose the best device for you!

iPhone 8 and Nokia 8: Which One is Better?

Let’s start with a comparison of iPhone 8 and Nokia 8 – both devices were presented at the same time, the network characteristics of both phones are quite high and do not have any significant differences.

General Characteristics: We all love Apple’s design – their products are always classy, simple, and attractive, while Nokia has been experimenting with the design for a while, which did not lead them to good results. Now, Nokia has returned to simple and classic design. By tradition, Apple offers us to use a single Nano-SIM card with its products, while Nokia is still offering a possibility to use two SIM cards (also Nano) at once. In general, Nokia 8 is a bit heavier, wider, longer and less thin than Apple’s flagman but, unlike iPhone, it is not resistant to water or dust, which is a big disadvantage.

Camera: Here we can observe some significant differences. Nokia has a 13-megapixel main camera, while iPhone has a 12-megapixel camera. Frontal cameras are 7-megapixel for Apple and the same 13-megapixel for Nokia, which, by the way, also features many great extra features that make its cameras truly the best ones!

Sound: The sound characteristics are very similar except one big difference – iPhone 8 does not have a standard 3.5 mm jack, instead it has lightning to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter.

Memory: Both devices have 64 Gb of built-in memory. As always, Nokia supports micro SD card, while iPhone does not offer such a possibility (however, it offers you to choose between two options – a phone with 64 or 256 Gb of memory). RAM memory in Nokia is 4 Gb, while an iPhone has only 2 Gb.

Battery: Both devices have non-removable Li-Ion battery with a convenient feature of quick charge. However, Nokia’s battery capacity is much higher – it is 3090 mAh, while an iPhone’s battery capacity is only 1,821 mAh.

iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S8?

To other flagmen are iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S8 that currently seem to be leading compared to the two phones that we compared above, their network characteristics are almost identical, but there are many other things that make them stand out so let’s try to find them.

General Characteristics: Both products have a good design. Their weight, height, and width are almost the same except some insignificant differences that are not too important. The main distinctive feature of Samsung is that with it you can use two SIM cards at the same time. Both devices are dust and water resistant. Although it is not a secret that these two companies are the biggest competitors nowadays, it is interesting enough that they both have launched their personal payment systems (Apple Pay and Samsung Pay).

Camera: Unlike Samsung, iPhone X has a dual camera. There are 12-megapixel main cameras on both gadgets. The frontal camera on Samsung is 8 megapixels, which is a bit higher than in the case with an iPhone. However, Apple easily compensates the lower indicators by numerous settings that make the quality of pictures not worse. Also, note that Apple’s smartphone offers a higher quality of video, has better indicators in terms of optical zoom and camera’s aperture. There are also some additional features (including face detection) for better quality.

Sound: Regarding the sound characteristics, there is nothing else I can say except repeat the things that I have said in a previous comparison – just like another Apple’s flagman, this one does not have 3.5 mm headphone jack but offers a possibility to use a lightning adapter.

Memory: iPhone X offers you to choose between the devices with 64 or 256 Gb of memory, while Samsung has only a 64 Gb version with a possibility to expand the memory to 256 Gb using a micro SD card. What about RAM memory? There is only 1 Gb difference in these device’s RAM memory, and it should be highlighted that Samsung has a higher number (4 Gb). Here we also do not have any vital differences.

Battery: Just like in the case with two previous devices, both iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S8 also have Li-Ion battery that is non-removable, and also, both products have a quick charge possibility. Two batteries seem to be equally good in use, so it is difficult to say which one is better.

Extra Features: We also should not forget about some innovations. We all got used to the fact that Apple always strives to surprise us with some new innovative functions that have never been used in other phones, and this time is not an exception. While all phones, including Nokia 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 have adopted the previous innovative feature – Touch ID, this year, Apple has presented a new great innovation – Face ID.

Which One To Choose?

Not without reason, all four gadgets that we were discussing in this post are leaders on the market – each of them has certain benefits, as well as disadvantages, which makes it difficult to decide which one is the best. Besides, their characteristics are suitable for a different audience. For example, choosing a new phone many students and young people are afraid to switch from one operating system to another because they are unsure that they will find all the needed apps and programs that they have used in the past. Luckily, this is not a problem! Therefore, you should make your decision basing on your own needs and desires and, hopefully, this comparison will help you make it faster and with ease!
